چکیده

Dermoscopy allows us to visualize structures and colors in pigmented lesions that are not visible to the naked eye. By comparing serial dermoscopic images of a mole, we can appreciate changes occurring long before any instability would be apparent on evaluation of conventional macroscopic images. One of the primary objectives of digital dermoscopy is to facilitate the storage and later comparison of serial images of atypical moles.1 Instability in such moles, as evidenced by increasing atypia, may give rise to a suspicion that the lesion is an incipient melanoma or a mole evolving towards melanoma. There are basically 4 possible scenarios in the diagnosis of a melanoma using dermoscopy. The first of these is the need to establish a morphologic differential diagnosis between a possible melanoma and a nonmelanocytic lesion, such as a seborrheic keratosis or basal cell epithelioma.2 In this case, the differential diagnosis is strictly morphologic. The greater diagnostic accuracy of dermoscopy compared to the unaided eye will help to prevent many unnecessary or unnecessarily urgent biopsies and excisions. And, more importantly, the use of dermoscopy will help to prevent the inadequate or delayed treatment of a melanoma.

Melanoma detection with a deep learning model

Background: Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the world and melanoma is the deadliest type of skin cancer. Both melanoma and melanocytic nevi begin in melanocytes (cells that produce melanin). However, melanocytic nevi are benign whereas melanoma is malignant. This work proposes a deep learning model for classification of these two lesions.    Methods: In this analytic s...

A New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images

Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...

Non-melanoma skin cancer diagnosis with a convolutional neural network

Background: The most common types of non-melanoma skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). AKIEC -Actinic keratoses (Solar keratoses) and intraepithelial carcinoma (Bowen’s disease)- are common non-invasive precursors of SCC, which may progress to invasive SCC, if left untreated. Due to the importance of early detection in cancer treatment, this study aimed...

Towards Prevention and Early Diagnosis of Skin Cancer: Computer-aided Analysis of Dermoscopy Images

Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, must be diagnosed early for effective treatment. Irregular pigment network and streaks are important clues for melanoma diagnosis using dermoscopy images. This thesis describes novel image processing approaches for computer-aided pigment network and streaks detection on dermoscopy images. Our methods provide meaningful visualization of these structur...

DERMA: A Melanoma Diagnosis Platform Based on Collaborative Multilabel Analog Reasoning

The number of melanoma cancer-related death has increased over the last few years due to the new solar habits. Early diagnosis has become the best prevention method. This work presents a melanoma diagnosis architecture based on the collaboration of several multilabel case-based reasoning subsystems called DERMA. The system has to face up several challenges that include data characterization, pa...
